Colonial Fruit Cone

Christmas greetings to you all! I've been doing some research on colonial times in how they decorated for their Christmas season. I came across this video on how to make a fruit cone that was very popular in colonial times. It looked easy enough and thought I'd try a hand at it. I love the traditional look by the way they used real materials. Here's the link: http://www.history.org/media/videoplayer/index.cfm?cat=vodcast&file=FruitCone#.
Easy right?
So here is my first fruit cone...

* I made a note for myself for next year. That I need three bags of apples instead of two. Also I noticed that I need to angle them upward a bit more instead of directly out toward me. I noticed that I need to work on the cone form. But I am pleased in how in turned out. This project did set me back $40 and the greenery was not real but the fruit is. The vintage green cake plate I already had. I was thinking of making one out of oranges or lemons next year. My son suggested a great idea in using pears. And don't forget that in colonial times, pineapple was thought to bring good luck. I'm signing off....from Peek-A-Boo Street!

It makes me feel proud to be from Detroit!!!!!!!! I've watched this video over and over again and it just sends chills down my spine. But please, pause my music at the bottom of the page first or you won't be able to hear this video. Sorry about the inconvenience.

I Couldn't Resist

Greetings! Okay, I'll admit. Remember those teacups I found for $7.50 last week? Well I couldn't resist. I just had to go back to my favorite thrift store and pick out just a few more teacups. I really could not resist. I don't know about you but I just can't find teacups in my town for that price. Their double or triple that price. So..........here's a peek. I pictured Royal Albert's 'Old English Rose' last week. But I found a dessert plate for only $5. So tell me, how can a girl resist that when I had bought the teacup and the saucer last week. Well I couldn't!..............

See. Now I have a perfect match. I just couldn't resist! Come check out the rest of the teacups I bought. This next one is Wellington China England. I love the light blue inside the cup and on the saucer with the dainty flowers on the edges. So pretty.

This next teacup says 'Queen Anne' on the bottom, and it's from England. I just loved all the roses around the edge of the saucer. So elegant.

The next one I'm showing you the saucer first. One look will explain why!....Just look at the red roses on this beautiful saucer!

And here it is again with the teacup set a top of it. I think this might be my favorite teacup that I picked up today. Oh yeah, I almost forgot to give you the name of this one. I was just so captivated by it's beauty. 'Royal Ascot' from England.

The next teacup is a 'Colclough' from England. Love the half opened roses on this teacup. Very nice.

And this last one I have to show you today is called 'Moss Rose' by Royal Albert. Love the shape of this teacup. It's so dainty and pretty. Love the flowers on this one. It looks so springy.

Spring???? Well not for awhile anyway. I don't care what that darn ground hog says in a couple of days. We have a major....a MAJOR winter storm coming our way here in Detroit. Oh it's just going to snow about 2 inches an hour and the totals are expected to be over a foot. Yep, a foot! But if you have been following me here on Peek-A-Boo Street over the past three winter's , you know how bad our winter's can be. And you also know how much I love them. Yep. Winter is my favorite season. I would NEVER leave my great state of Michigan in search for a warmer climate. Never. I LOVE the winter time. And I ♥ snow storms! They say that it's only happened maybe six times since the 1900's where we got so much snow like this accumulated in one storm. But we'll be ok. We'll muster through it. I just hope we don't lose power. Right behind this storm is sunny skies but temps dropping down to ZERO for a couple of days after the storm. Oh this ought to be a fun week.
So with that......I'm signing off..............from Peek-A-Boo Street!
P.S. I can't believe how lucky I have been in finding all of these Royal Albert teacups. And yes, their from England. I prefer the teacups I collect to be from England. But have purchased others if I like the teacup.

My Favorite Candy ♥♥♥

These little candy hearts from Brach's are my favorite candies. I have to get some 'conversation hearts' every time St. Valentine's Day rolls around. It wouldn't be St. Valentine's without them! Also I'm showing off my new candy dish I found for a few bucks at one of the thrift stores. I just look at all of the pretty pieces I've found and wonder how anyone could possibly not want them anymore. That's ok. I gives me a chance to snatch them up for a few bucks each. Have a great day! ♥

Coming Out of Hiding

Hello fellow blogger's. Oh my gosh! I know that I have been away from my blog for awhile but I was so excited about what I found at the thrifty store that I just had to post about it! Now come on fellow blogger's....what do I ♥ the most? This should be an easy guess for all who know me and my blog. Teacups! Yep. I went to my favorite thrift store of all and seen two cabinets full of teacups! They never sold tea cups before. I thought I was in shear heaven! And the price ladies....$7.50 EACH!!!!! I just couldn't pass it up! I bought four beautiful tea cups with their saucers. So pretty. I just had to stop by my blog to share them with you all.
This first photo here is 'Queen Anne' from England!

This second tea cup is from Royal Albert from England.

This third cup here is 'Moonglow' from Royal Albert and also from England.

This last teacup is also from Royal Albert, 'Old English Rose.' Also from England!

At a different thrift store I found this cutest little tea pot. I set it by the teacup to give you an idea of the size. You can for sure have two cups of tea inside this little adorable tea pot. So cute. Ellegreave, a division of Woods & Sons. And it too is from England! Here's a pic of it from the front.

Here's the back of the tea pot.

There's no staining inside the teapot, so I don't think it's ever been used. But on the front there is some cracks in the glazing. But who cares. I probably will never use the teapot, but the teacups I will use. They are all so pretty. And their all from England. If you remember, I love England tea cups as a collector. I feel so lucky to have found these little beauties. With all my little cups I have collected, I should have a tea party! Maybe one day. I hope all is well with all of the blogger's out there. I noticed some of my bloggy friends haven't posted also in awhile. Sometimes you just need a break I guess.

Punkin' Bread Recipe

I've never had Pumpkin Bread. I wanted to make it last year but never got around to it. So I made some this afternoon. It's raining here on Peek-A-Boo Street so going to the cider mill was marked off the agenda. So I decided to make that Pumpkin Bread that I've always wanted to make and taste. I don't like Pumpkin pie but this bread was so good. I could really taste the nutmeg in it. I might cut back on the nutmeg just a pinch next time. I rarely type out recipes here on my blog because of sheer laziness. This recipe was so yummy, I just had to pass along the recipe for you. A lot of you probably already have it because it came from my Better Homes & Garden cook book. Which is my favorite cook book of all time. I've even took some pics for you to see.

Ingredients
3 cups sugar
1 cup cooking oil
4 eggs
3 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground nutmeg
2/2 cup water
1 15-oz. can pumpkin
Directions
1. Spray not stick spray in two 9x5x3 in. loaf pans; set aside. In a very large bowl beat sugar and oil with an electric mixer on medium speed. Add eggs and beat well; set aside.
2. In a large bowl combine flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Alternately add flour mixture and water t sugar mixture, beating on low speed after each addition just until combined. Beat in pumpkin. Spoon batter into prepared pans.
3. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 65 minutes (I baked mine 70 minutes) or until the wooden toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool pans on wire rack for 10 minutes. Remove from pans. Cool completely on wire racks. Wrap and store overnight before slicing (I could not wait and sliced into the bread when it was still warm).
And there you have it folks. A great Pumpkin Bread recipe. I loved the bread. It was so good. My house smelled heavenly when the Pumpkin Bread was baking in the oven. I will definitely be making this again! And of course, it's a wonderful autumn recipe. Plus it makes two loafs. You could wrap it up and send it to a loved one close by. I think I'm going to try and freeze the other one. That would be a great idea. I could just bring it out the night before I have my next get together. I hope you all are enjoying the fall season.

The East And The West

Hello fellow bloggers. I cannot believe that we are now in the month of September! Oh my gosh, I'm going to be getting my Halloween decorations out next month. Oh my. But I am ready for fall. It's always so nice to welcome in a new season. I feel so blessed to be living in the North area where we see all four seasons. I wouldn't want it any other way. Their all beautiful. But as I've mentioned here before, winter is my all time favorite. Snow storms, snow storms and more snow storms. Looovvvee them! I love getting all snuggled in with a warm beverage in my mug, looking out the window and just waiting for the first flakes to begin floating down from the sky. So absolutely no beautiful southern beach could lure me away from my northern home town.
Okay I'm talking about the north and the south. The other day, after a short rainfall. So short the ground wasn't even wet, looky what my son and I seen to the east....

Then look what we seen to the west....
Happy Sunday!
