Safety First

I am so proud of my youngest son and I'll tell you why. He got a scooter with some of his birthday money. It's pretty cool. It is battery operated and it does go pretty fast for a kid's scooter. My son also learned to ride his bike this spring. So he has been wanting to go out in front of the house to ride his bike and scooter a lot. So my hubby and I would take turns to go out there and watch him. After about 100 (lol) times of going out with him, we just told him that he can go just a few houses down and then turn around, and to just keep going back and forth until he gets tired. We told him that we were just going to start watching him from the front window. Well he didn't like that at first but then he went along with it. My neighbors probably think I'm crazy because I watch my son like a hawk. I don't know why I won't go outside on the front porch because I'm standing in the window watching him anyway. Sometimes he see's me and other times he's just having to much fun to notice me.
Well I happened to be watching out one day when my son reached our driveway and was getting ready to make another go of it. But he stopped. He seen that a black car had pulled up to the curb just a few doors down. Before I could even turn around, he was already in the back door.
I just gave him a hug. I told him that he did the right thing. That car made him feel unsure and uneasy.
I told him that I seen what he did. I told him that I think it was a city worker. None the less, I told my son that he did the right thing by coming into the house. I told him to continue to always go with his gut instinct. If it doesn't seem right, then it probably isn't and that he should never take a chance with strangers because he never knows.
I'm so proud of him for coming into the house. To watch him, when he didn't even see me watching him..... doing the right thing.
So I found that to be the perfect opportunity to go over and review ALL that there was to talk about of strangers etc., etc. And with it being summer now, we do need to keep our children safe and to keep talking to them about being safe.
I'm signing off......from Peek-A-Boo Street!

You are a great mom Anne and you are right to watch Ryan like a hawk. Nancy Grace was just saying the other night to never let your children play outside by them selves. It's just to dangerous any more. I'm glad you go through the safety steps with him and it makes be proud that he has good instincts too.
