v v v v Fabric Cone v v v v

Once again, I've been inspired by all of you bloggers out there. I've notice that a lot of you have been making fabric cones using all types of materials, not just fabric. I've loved all the vintage and lacy ones that are out there in blog land. So since I already have my sewing machine out, I thought I'd give it a try.

And this is what I came up with.

So what do ya think? It's cute isn't it? I had some fabric left over from my vintage pillow so I'd thought I'd use that material to make my cone. I don't really know what to put inside of it yet so I just added a little of this at that until I can find something pretty to put inside of it. Notice the buttons on the front? Sorry the pic is so dark. I took this pic this evening, so I wasn't getting good lighting in my bedroom. I'm hanging it on my closet door knob.

I used an 8 inch bowl turned upside down and traced the circle onto the wrong side of my fabric with a pencil, very lightly. Cut out the circles. Then I ironed the two pieces of fabric with spray starch twice to make the fabric kind of stiff. Pinned the circles right side facing, but also tucked in the lace before I pinned it all together. When I pinned the lace in between like a sandwich, make sure the ruffle part of the lace is pointing inside of the circle. The edge of the lace is what you pin to the edge of the circle. Then sew to have enough room to turn the fabric right side out through the space that's left. Then I tucked the fabric under with the lace between the fabric and sewed it with machine. I didn't care what that part looked like to much because it was going to be covered when I over flapped the edges. Then I embellished the front with some flower buttons which also helped secure the cone. I also added some lace up top and secured the lace handle by hand sewing the lace with some flower buttons on each side.

The one thing that I would do different if I make another cone is that I would sew the handle in between the two fabric for a more professional look. The way I did it, you can see the cut lace inside of the cone with the thread showing from me hand sewing the buttons in place. It makes it look a little sloppy.

It was a fun little project and it only took me half a day.

I have another sewing project in mind and this is one I thought up myself. So you never know. Maybe my next sewing project will be the one to inspire you this time. And you will have to stay tuned for that. Nope. Not saying what it could be, but it is a sewing project.
