Well as you all know, I've been kind of getting into the vintage thing. I love old things and I love to make things that can be passed down from generation to generation. Hopefully, my things won't be thrown down in some dingy ole basement in a pool of water with my projects floating at the surface. That makes me grimace just thinking about it!
I have working on a set of pillowcases. I'm still on the first one and having so much fun with it. I've never embroidered on pillowcases before. I will just be using them for decorative purposes only and not for use. There are four little blue birds perched on brown branches with light green leaves. I think it's so adorable. Plus it being birds isn't to girlish. In fact, while working on them, my sons and grandsons come to mind. I will be signing them with embroidery but not sure what I want it to say. Usually the name of the crafter and the full date is used for projects. I want it to say something that "they" (who would "they" be?) will cherish it though. Anyway, enough gabbing and here is the picture of when I first started. I'm already on the last bird. I worked on it a lot over the 4th of July weekend.
I thought it was neat to learn that after you finish it and wash it, the blue x's will disappear. So all you see is the embroider. I took a picture of the package so you can see the finish project.....
Aren't those birdies just adorable. I was thinking that I could use these pillow cases in a guest bedroom. Wouldn't it be lovely to put them out in the spring time on top of a bed? I think there so cheery. =) Being a mom to two sons and a grandmother to two grandsons, is probably why I picked these out at JoAnn's and not something floral. Even when I buy a teacup with blue on them, I think of the boys in my life. Thank gosh I got a daughter and a terrific Mom-in-law in my life! The few of us woman need to stick together in our little family of guys! But the tide may turn one day, you never know!
I wanted to show you a picture of some pillowcases that I bought at the vintage store by my house that I'm really starting to love!
Yes, this set of pillowcases are very girly. But again I can see them in a guest room one day. I don't have a guest room as of right now. The bedrooms are still being "occupied" right now. =) I don't think that these are vintage though. It may have been done by a embroidery machine. The pillow cases were made by someone though. Because when I turn them inside out, I can tell by the zigzag stitching of someones sewing machine. But that's all right. Still, they were made very well and the set was only $14. And hey, by the time I do get to use them for a guest bedroom.....they will be vintage. =)
So I will be adding my birdie pillowcases along with these pink embroidered pillowcases. Hmmm. I feel another collection stirring.
I have started collecting a few vintage hankies but don't know how many of those I want to invest in but many people collect them.
So there you have it. That's what I've been up to lately. So have you been working on any projects this summer under a shaded tree? Or perhaps you've been reading a great summer novel on your favorite swing in your backyard. I'd love to hear from you!
I do hope you all are enjoying your summer.
I'm signing off.....from Peek-A-Boo Street!
Those birdies are so cute and will be perfect for either visiting guests or for a gift. I like to make things and put them away just for the sudden gift that might be needed. I have several knitted baby blankets done and stored so now maybe I need to start on some embroidery gifts to be given for wedding gifts.
