My Lady

This is the way we sang it as children...

Ladybug, ladybug,
fly a way!
The house is
on fire!
And the kids
ran away!

This is the original...

"Ladybug, ladybug, fly away home
Your house is on fire, and your children will burn
All except for little nan, weaving gold laces as fast as she can"

I love Ladybugs and always have. Infact I think it's the only bug I like. And till this day, whenever I see a Ladybug, my heart skips a beat and I'll say, "Oh a Ladybug!" with such excitement.

Back in the pioneer days when insects would eat their crops, they would pray to the Virgin Mary for help to stop the insects from destroying their crops. After much praying, swarms of Ladybugs came upon their crops and ate up all of those nasty pests. At first they named this bug Beetles of Our Lady. Then it was Lady Beetles. Which was changed to Ladybugs.

Some Ladybug legends;

Ladybugs lead us to money! If you find a ladybug in your house, count the spots and that will be how many dollars you will soon find!

Around the world ladybugs are good luck! In every culture ladybugs are good luck! Killing or harming one will bring bad luck! So if you find one in your house, garden or on you, consider yourself lucky! Good things are coming your way!

Nearly ALL cultures believe that a Ladybug is lucky. Killing one is said to bring sadness and misfortune.

If a Ladybug is held in the hand while making a wish, the direction that it flies away to shows where
your luck will come from.

The Victorians in Britain believed that if a Ladybug alighted on your hand, you would be receiving new gloves.....if it landed on your head, a new hat would be in your future, and so on.

In Norway, if a man and a woman spot a Ladybug at the same time, there will be a romance between them.

If I were tiny just like you
I'd creep among the flowers too!
