Why Stop There

Sorry I haven't written in a few days but I have been working on my latest project, fixing up my office.

So I suppose your still wondering why my hubby and I were out in the rain the other day?

Well.......I went back to the antique mall to look at an old rocking chair and decided not to get it. So since I was there I decided to browse around again through the isles........my eyes almost sprung out of my head and my chin almost hit the floor as I was coming up the isle and seen this beautiful desk!!!! It was from the 1940's!!!!! The wood is walnut and the tag said that all drawers worked. That's not the only thing the tag read. The asking price was $200.

So I thought, why stop at the china cabinet. Why not add an antique desk to my office.

So I talked it over with my hubby when he got home and he made arrangements to borrow one of his friends pick-up truck from work, the very next day.

So the next morning it was raining. But it stopped when my husband was able to leave work later that morning. But of course the rain picked up again when we were on our way to go pick up the antique dresser. We had brought some old blankets along. This time I had to help my husband get the dresser into the back of the truck. Of course it was raining pretty steady at that point. Then my hubby got a little upset with me. I told him that the desk was small and that it would be able to fit under that flat top cover thing you get for the back of pick-ups. He had a hard time unsnapping them to pull the cover at least, half way back. It was pouring rain at that point, in the winter, and with him just getting over from being sick. So I can't really blame him for being just a little upset with me. I did feel bad for him but I was in the rain to. Sorry honey. And thank you. =)

Well when we got it home, I noticed the top wasn't in the best shape. It had some water damage. It looked like a grandchild inherited this desk and used it for their house plants and let the water, damage the desk top. My dear husband said that he can re due the top surface for me. And guess what? He did! And he did an awesome job. Thanks honey. =) I wanted to take a before and after picture but I didn't have time. I was blogging when I heard this noise outside. My hubby was already sanding the top down. He's going to refinish just the top.

This is what I seen when I came to the window. The first sanding was already done.

Ugh. Don't mind my grass. It looks horrible at the end of the winter.

So this is what I've been doing these past few days. Trying to get my office back in order. You would not believe this beautiful huge desk that I gave up for this smaller desk. But I love it! ♥ And it's functional. It's not like it's sitting in the corner not being used. My big desk was shimmied down the hall to my little sons room. He's using it like an entertainment center. It has like all these little cubby holes along the hutch part of it. He filled it up with his kid stuff little boys like. Here's a pic of it. I know, I know I can here you already over here on Peek-A-Boo Street. The desk was huge and I do like it. But I just fell in ♥ with my 1940's desk! I'll do without the extra space for my new desk any day. And at least we did find a way for us to use the big desk. My seven year old just loves his set up. My husband says that he has the kind of t.v. that can be a monitor for a computer one day. All he needs is a keyboard.

And here are some pictures with the finished desk in my office. Again, if you click onto the picture it'll enlarge. Look at the top of the desk. Didn't my dear hubby do a fabulous job! Again, I wish I would have gotten a before pic with the water damage. It looks perfect. He's such a wonderful hubby.

The lamp on the desk I also bought at the antique mall. That's another story. =) I still have to keep an eye out for an antique wooden chair to go with my desk.

I'm so happy that it all turned out so nice. Like I said before, I'm a lucky girl. ♥
Also I would like to one day get a comfy recliner in my office. It will be a place where I can work on my crocheting or do some reading in, while I'm sipping on some hot tea with one my teacups from my china cabinet. =)
I hope you all are having a fabulous week. Sorry this post is so long.
After we got home and put the desk onto the house, I went back outside to hold an umbrella over my hubby so he could snap up his friends truck cover. He was having such a hard time. We were completely soaked that day. That was the day I posted about having some hot tea and watching the movie, 'Strike Up the Band.'
OK. Well enough rambling.
I'm signing off..........from Peek-A-Boo Street.
P.S. All I need now (lol) is maybe a Fred Astaire poster with him dancing dressed with his top hat. Fred Astaire was the bomb! I love his movies and of course I just love how he danced. I always will watch a movie with him in it.

Anne, I just love the desk. Everything looks wonderful. I especially like your lamp. It looks so pretty sitting on the desk. I can't wait to see it. I also like how you put the old desk in Ryan's room. Now he has lot's of storage space for all of his things. Your room is looking so nice!

  7. Wow, that's a great desk! We are stalled in the middle of a free-standing pantry my husband made. We painted it RED (red red RED red, like REALLY RED) and decided it was so hideous that I needed to repaint it, except to make it as complicated as possible I wanted to crackle paint it. Well, it's still sitting there ugly and red in my kitchen with no doors on it.

Can I borrow some of your motivation??
