v v v v Fabric Cone v v v v

Once again, I've been inspired by all of you bloggers out there. I've notice that a lot of you have been making fabric cones using all types of materials, not just fabric. I've loved all the vintage and lacy ones that are out there in blog land. So since I already have my sewing machine out, I thought I'd give it a try.
And this is what I came up with.

So what do ya think? It's cute isn't it? I had some fabric left over from my vintage pillow so I'd thought I'd use that material to make my cone. I don't really know what to put inside of it yet so I just added a little of this at that until I can find something pretty to put inside of it. Notice the buttons on the front? Sorry the pic is so dark. I took this pic this evening, so I wasn't getting good lighting in my bedroom. I'm hanging it on my closet door knob.
I used an 8 inch bowl turned upside down and traced the circle onto the wrong side of my fabric with a pencil, very lightly. Cut out the circles. Then I ironed the two pieces of fabric with spray starch twice to make the fabric kind of stiff. Pinned the circles right side facing, but also tucked in the lace before I pinned it all together. When I pinned the lace in between like a sandwich, make sure the ruffle part of the lace is pointing inside of the circle. The edge of the lace is what you pin to the edge of the circle. Then sew to have enough room to turn the fabric right side out through the space that's left. Then I tucked the fabric under with the lace between the fabric and sewed it with machine. I didn't care what that part looked like to much because it was going to be covered when I over flapped the edges. Then I embellished the front with some flower buttons which also helped secure the cone. I also added some lace up top and secured the lace handle by hand sewing the lace with some flower buttons on each side.
The one thing that I would do different if I make another cone is that I would sew the handle in between the two fabric for a more professional look. The way I did it, you can see the cut lace inside of the cone with the thread showing from me hand sewing the buttons in place. It makes it look a little sloppy.
It was a fun little project and it only took me half a day.
I have another sewing project in mind and this is one I thought up myself. So you never know. Maybe my next sewing project will be the one to inspire you this time. And you will have to stay tuned for that. Nope. Not saying what it could be, but it is a sewing project.

All Tuckered Out

This is exactly how I felt this morning when I woke up...

This half deflated balloon was the remnants of my kids birthday and pool party, left over from yesterday's party. (sigh)
Oh my gosh. I was so tired this morning. Last year we got a new pool. So I'd thought I'd throw my son a birthday party this year with a bunch of his pals.
Gee, I didn't realize of the energy and stamina that I would need to get through it. I thought I was prepared and organized and ready for the party. I could have been a little more organized but I just didn't think of all the other issues that would take place.
For one, my husband was sick. So I was stuck hosting the party alone. We had almost ten kids and I had some family there as well. Thank goodness my family members were there to help me because I was really struggling to keep on top of things.
First I was so afraid that the morning rain was going to ruin the party.
Then I had to greet each parent and child as they were arriving.
The kids swam for the first two hours which was some what calm in spite of a boy being stung by a bee, kids having to pour in and out of the house to get changed, and having to some what dry off, to use the rest room. Oh my. We had to put ice on the boys bee sting and call him Mom just so that she was aware of it. A couple of the kids didn't want to swim anymore.
Then I had to serve the pizza. My oldest children picked up the pizza thank goodness because my husband was sick in bed. Of all days. All the kids needed to have their pops opened.
My son opened his gifts. I don't even know who got him what. But we're still sending out thank you cards.
Then we sang him happy birthday and had cake and ice cream. So I had to serve everyone that. Thanks to some of my family who helped me with that. I did get a lot of help from family. But I really needed my husband there but he was ill in bed. I needed him to lean on and it just wasn't going to happen. Because even though their family, their still guests and you don't want to have to have them help with your party. So I felt bad about that.
I was so busy watching the kids in the pool, I couldn't' visit with my family who were present. I could not take my eyes off the kids in the pool. And it was hard when kids would have to go inside to use the restroom.
Then we started the games so that the kids could win their prizes. And one boy slid down the pool latter and hurt his ankle. We had to ice that and call him mom to come pick him up. So the games had to stop because we had to deal with that. I called his Mom this morning and she said that he's doing fine.
Then we started them back up again. And the party really started to get fun again with that. The kids swam for the last 15 minutes while waiting to be picked up. So again, you had to greet the parents, get address for thank you cards, make sure kids got all of their belongings and loot bags and pixie sticks. Oh my.
There was a point in the party when I felt like I was being pulled in a million directions. I just wanted to burst into tears. I tried to wake up hubby because I needed help so desperately. But he was out like a light. But when I got back outside. I was better.
Oh did I tell you that I had a big graduation party for my oldest son last weekend? Oh dear. No wonder I had a headache today. I couldn't sleep in, I had to go to church this morning.
It's a rainy day today. All is calm. House and yard are trashed but the hard work is done.
Will I ever do the pool party thing again? I don't know. It was a lot of work. I know it sounds like I'm complaining, but let me tell you. My son and his pals all had a fabulous time. They are oblivious to how the hostess feels. My son got a lot of nice gifts from his friends and family. So we got to get our thank you cards out to them as well. Looking back, there are a lot of things that I could have done differently. If I do this again, I will have to remember those things. I did the best I could. I have to leave it at that.
And this is how I'm ending my day on this rainy evening...

This tea, never tasted better. It's was exactly what I needed. So warm and tasty. Ahhh. No more parties for awhile. And NO cake! Have a wonderful and restful Sunday evening.

Let's Hear It For The Glee Club!

Has anyone been watching the first season of Glee? Oh my gosh. I think it's becoming my favorite t.v. show.
I started watching of few of the first episodes and then kind of stopped. Then in March, it said that it was returning for the spring season and that it was growing in popularity. Especially by woman. So I thought that I'd give it another shot. And oh my gosh, I'm I glad I did. I thought it would be geared more for teenage girls but, I can see why woman would like the show. I don't think that my husband would like it though.
Last night I watched the grand finale. Was that awesome or what?! Was anyone else watching it?
I found a clip on YouTube if your interested. It's Finn and Rachel singing Journey's Faithfully song together. What it didn't show in the YouTube clip was that Finn told Rachel he loved her right before they went on stage. Awww. I don't know why they cut that part out but anyway, watch the clip. It shows a five second commercial before the actual clip. *NOTE* Also you might want to pause my music at the bottom of my blog page. Then settle in. You don't want to miss a thing. I'ts not long.
So what did you think?
Here's a pic of some of the cast members.

The show is like a comedy of all of these kids in their high school glee club. I like it. I like it.
Fox is going to be airing the whole first season over the summer on Thursday nights at 8 pm. So if you'd like to get into the Glee fever, watch for it. I'm going to watch it over the summer because there was a few shows that I missed.
My family thought I was weird last night when I was jumping up and down after the grand finale. I was so excited when the Glee club was not going to be ousted out of the school curriculum. The glee club was going to continue on for another year at the high school. Yeah for the Glee club! Then right before I went to bed, I seen a full moon.

I knew something weird was in the air tonight. It must be that Glee fever.

Sew Vintage

Good evening fellow blogger's. As I was resting on this fine Sunday, I thought I'd pick up my vintage pillow that I've been working on. It has been giving me such a hard time. I'm not much of a sewer. But I really wanted to make one. As with the banner I made (just a few posts down), once again, I got the idea from all of you blogger's out there. I've seen these vintage pillows popping up all over blog land here. And I thought, a pillow? How hard could that be? Boy was I wrong. I was getting ready to throw this thing into the garbage and move onto my next sewing project but, I really wanted this vintage pillow and I had already invested all of the material so I didn't want to throw in the towel just yet. So I took all of the seams out and tried again. And lookie here. My handmade vintage pillow....

I took the darn thing all apart and tried sewing it just one more time. And it worked. Or it looks decent enough for me to have it set out on my bed. I'm so glad that I tried one more time. Because I really did want the vintage pillow for my bed and now I'll have it forever. Gee, I didn't think a little pillow could be such a hassle. I wanted to make more but, I just don't know about that. I'll have to see about that. But I do have a few more sewing projects in mind that I really want to get going on and excited about.
But anyway, did you notice the green patch in the center of the pillow? Yep, it's a pocket. I just had to have a pocket like all of your vintage pillows out there. By the way, the pillow is about 11 inches by 18 inches.
You could put your wedding picture in there or whatever you'd like to put in there. I was even thinking of a rosary. I don't know. I'll have to go around the house and find something special to tuck in there.
Well I hope you all had a lovely weekend. And thanks again for all of the inspiration you all bring to me!

Thrifty Shopping

In spite of me running around and getting ready for a huge graduation party, I did manage to hit a couple of my thrifty stores this week. I couldn't miss a week of not going, lol.
The shelves were full but I really didn't see to much this time. But I did pick up some things and I'd thought I'd show you.
I found this little Holly Hobby plate. I'm really starting to like Holly Hobby. It reminds me of being a little girl and of course my sister and I each had the doll. I don't know if you can read the writing on the plate but it reads, "Love is the little things you do." How true is that? Just had to get it.

The yellow plate was $2 and the little green one was only 1 dollar.
I love amber glassware. These are little square bowls. I can see using them for salads or for dips. 2 bucks each.

These are jelly and marmalade jars with lids. The lids have a little opening where the little spoons are suppose to be. The little spoons weren't in the box. So I'll have to keep my eye out for some little spoons when I'm out thrifty shopping. But I love these. I thought that these were so pretty. You could even use one for jelly and the other for mock devonshire cream for your scones. Wouldn't that be pretty? The set was $3.

I also just picked up a few small vases. The one in the center I want to use for small bouquets. And the little bud ones I would like to use them to put single roses in them. The ones on the ends were 1 dollar each and the one in the center was like 2 or 3 bucks, I can't remember.

I just had to make a quick stop to my antique shop. I finally found a vintage purse for my china cabinet. I already picked up the gloves a few weeks ago. And I knew I wanted to set them on a vintage purse. So glad I found one but this little beauty was $8. And that is one of the cheaper ones that they had. But I like it. It's pretty much what I was looking for.

I know I wanted a poodle knick knack. They are highly collectible. I did find one at the antique shop. To me is was a little pricey for this little girl but, I just had to have it. ;-) This little pooch set my back $12.50. But now I have one. Na, na, na, na, na naaaa. It's cute though isn't it? My dog does the same thing when she wants to play. She puts her butt in the air.

When I seen this at the thrifty store. I grabbed it. It is exactly what I need for my mantle at Easter time. I really didn't have to much setting up there this past Easter and knew that I would have to get something next year. That's why I grabbed this when I seen it. It's perfect for my mantle. It's over a foot long. It has these cute little bunnies swinging from the tree. And the swings do move. When I checked the price I couldn't believe that it was only $4!! I hate to buy things for the holidays because I have to put them away. But I will be so happy to have this next year when I'm decorating for Easter.

Last but not least, I found this picture for only $3. I hung it in my office/parlour.
Well, I guess I did get alot this week. I probably won't be able to post anything till next week. I will be busy over the weekend because of my son's graduation party and it being Father's Day on Sunday.
So with that, I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Tomorrows The Day

Well tomorrow morning, bright and early, my family and I will be in attendance to see my son walk across the stage to get his high school diploma.
The cap is ready to go. And the gown has been pressed. For some reason, the color looks purple, but it's maroon.

How excited we all are. I can't believe the time has come for my son to be graduating from high school.
It takes a lot of work, commitment and dedication on the part of the child and the parents to see this day come about and unfold before their eyes.
I'm wishing, that time will stand still, for just a moment, for my son, myself and family as my son walks across the stage and takes hold of his hard earned diploma. There will be young adults before him and after him to receive their diplomas. So I really do just want to take in the moment that he receives his diploma.
A little note to my son;
Son,
Mom & Dad, are so proud of you. We love you. We are so blessed and so lucky to have you for a son. You really are an awesome person with a great personality. You have grown into such a bright and handsome young man. Well you have always been a good looking kid. =) Mom & Dad...and your family, wish you the best in all of your endeavors through life. Off to college you go boy. You have to buy your mama some pink furry slippers
(personal joke)! Now see, I'm getting all teary eyed. =)
With all of our love,
Mom, Dad, and your little bro. ♥
P.S. Then comes the paaarrrtyy! Yah baby!

A Life Lesson~

(Can you see Her eyes?)

A Life~Lesson

There little girl, don't cry!
They have broken your doll, I know;
And your tea-set blue,
And your play-house, too,
Are things of the long ago;
But childish troubles will soon pass by.-
There! little girl, don't cry!

There! little girl, don't cry!
They have broken your slate, I know;
And the glad, wild ways
Of your school-girl days
Are things of the long ago;
But life and love will soon come by.-
There! little girl, don't cry!

There! little girl, don't cry!
They have broken your heart, I know;
And the rainbow gleams
Of your youthful dreams
Are things of the long ago;
But Heaven holds all for which you sigh.-
There! little girl, don't cry!

My Brother Henry

My brother Henry went on a trip to the desert with one of his pals. He said that he would never go there again. I think it was in Arizona some wheres. I can't remember. It got really hot during the day he said and extremely cold at night. He and his friend camped out there in the desert to. He said that he had encountered so many dangerous animals. Wolves, snakes, cougars and even scorpions! His friend took pics of Henry beings surrounded by all these animals. If Henry's friend wouldn't have shot that safety rocket into the air, my brother Henry would have been a goner. His friend Hank even managed to take Henry's picture. You can see the frightened look upon his face! My brother said that I could put his picture on my blog! If you look closely, you can see my brother Henry with the back pack. Amazing!

See...yet another pic...

Okay, so I fabricated and conjured up some wild tale to you. =) I had to make this post sound interesting.
Really, my son and I have been working on his desert diorama. I thought it turned out rather nice so I wanted to share it with all of my readers. Other students did other habitats for animals, like a forest, jungle or polar.
I'm glad my son got the desert. It seems like it was one of the easy ones. Here are just some of the materials that I found at the craft store.

We got some colored sand, pebbles and glue. The little figures actually came in a little desert set. It was like in a clear tube. The craft store also had other sets with jungle animals and so forth. So I was glad when I found these because I knew that it would make the project.
I was even fortunate enough to find the painted sun as well. The clouds and the blue water was made of felt. I also used some sticks in my back yard to glue here and there.
I even had my son color the back drop to look like sand. Also I had him add the heat wave raze so it looked like he actually did something in his project and not his mother. =) He better get a good grade, lol. This project set me back $14 bucks, lol. I sure hope my sons teacher doesn't read my blog!
So tell me. I had you goin' about my brother Henry huh? Come on....I seeeeeee that smile.
Good night folks!

P.S. Ok the truth. I don't have a brother, lol! Come on. Come on. You know I had you goin'!

I Surrender

Well, all of you blogger's out there in blog land have inspired me again. And that's not hard to believe. There are so many creative and talented bloggers out there. You don't even have to buy any magazines for inspiration, just browse blog land and you'll definitely be inspired. I'm sure you all can agree.
I've seen on many blogs these cute flag banner's you all have been making for parties and such. And I have been bitten by the blog bug and surrendered in trying to make a flag banner myself.
These flag banners just look so festive for any party or occasion. I thought I'd make some Americana flags. That way I can pretty much use them all the way to Labor Day weekend.
I don't do much sewing. But I do know the basic skills. As long as I keep my projects easy, I'm in pretty good shape. So what do ya think?

The only thing I did not like about this project was the cost. It cost me almost $20 in material. Sewing I found can be very expensive. And like I said, the projects I do are very easy.
I won't bore you with all the steps but I'll tell you a few. This project took me two days to do. Although it could take one if you had nothing happening in the same day. My flags are double sided. Maybe that's were the price came into play. You can kind of see, in the last pic that I sewed the ends to make a little loop. We already had nails in the wall for our Christmas stockings. =) I also used some stock paper to make a triangle template. I used my sons chalk from his chalk board to trace it onto the wrong side of the fabric (See...kids come in handy). =)
Then I was going to add some of this daisy trim on the flags but I didn't have enough. =(
When I went back to the store, they didn't have anymore. Just this spool alone was $6. To me that's alot of money. And you don't even get that much. You get 6 ft. I know that sounds like alot but it's not. Not even for little projects.
Isn't this trim just the cutest though. I was going to start another little project today, but the trimming was more than the material. I mean give me a break. It's not worth making anything when the trim is more than the material.
But anyway. I did enjoy sewing again and had fun. And I felt very creative. I made something. Thanks you all for the inspiration!
