We've all heard that song sung on New Year's Eve before. Does anyone really know the lyrics to that famous song, Auld Lang Syne? And just what does that song mean? Does anyone really know?
Well that song was written first as a poem by a Scottish poet, Robert Burns in 1796. Auld lang syne means, "old long since" and "time gone by." The song mentions if old friends and past times will be forgotten.
A bandleader Guy Lombardo is the one who made the song famous when he and his brother's started their band. They would play it at midnight on New Year's Eve as their signature piece. The first time they played Auld Lang Syne was in 1929. And ever since then, his version of Auld Lang Syne has been playing on New Year's Eve.
Here is the Scottish version that is sung on New Year's Eve;
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne!
CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup of kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!
And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp,
And surely I'll be mine,
And we'll tak a cup o kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!
We twa hae run about the braes,
And pou'd the gowans fine,
But we've wander'd monie a weary fit,
Sin auld lang syne.
We twa hae paidl'd in the burn,
Frae morning sun till dine,
But seas between us braid hae roar'd
Sin auld lang syne.
And there's a hand my trusty fiere,
And gie's a hand o thine,
And we'll tak a right guid-willie waught,
For auld lang syne.
The English version;
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and old times since?
CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
And surely you 'll buy your pint cup!
And surely I'll buy mine!
And we'll take a cup o' kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
CHORUS
We two have run about the slopes,
and picked the daisies fine;
But we've wandered many a weary foot,
since auld lang syne.
CHORUS
We two hae paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine;
But seas between us broad have roared
since auld lang syne.
CHORUS
And there's a hand my trusty friend!
And give us a hand o' thine!
And we'll take a right good-will draught,
for auld land syne.
So there you have it bloggy friends. While you and yours friends and families are ringing in the new year, while toasting and singing, your friends and family will be so amazed that you know all the words to "Auld Lang Syne." And you can look at them weird and say, "What, don't you know the words?"
Have a safe & happy New Year!

Christmas 2008
Well I do hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and are continuing to have a nice holiday. I know that this time of year can be very busy for everyone.
My family is having a very nice Christmas and holiday. The kids are about half way through their winter break. They go back in a week. My grandson will be staying with us for a few days during this Christmas break.
I've already started to take down some of my Christmas decorations.
I haven't really done any after-Christmas shopping.
I know I've over eaten on to many Christmas goodies. But it's Christmas time. Your suppose to allow yourself to have those extra treats.
And in just a few days we'll be ringin' in 2009.
We will be having a quiet New Year's Eve at home this year. We will probably have some goodies to. Tomorrow back to my exercising to burn off all these holiday calories. I hope you all have a safe & happy new year celebration. I'm signing off...from Peek-A-Boo Street.

Yep...More Snow
Yep it's the night before Christmas Eve. The cookies are baked. The spinach dip is made. My stuffed pasta shells are ready to be warmed. House is cleaned. Just waiting for the arrival of some very special guests. Oh did I mention that we're in for another four to seven inches of snow tonight? Man. I'm going to have to take some pictures for you all when Christmas is over, and when I feel like trenching out into the snow and cold and blustery winter weather to get some pics for you.
So what did I do? No, I didn't take any pictures yet, but I will. I watched a couple more movies.
Well last night I watched the Shaggy D.A. It had Tim Conway in it and it just made me feel like a kid again. I love to watch movies that remind me of being a kid again. Even to this day, when I seen that sheep dog Elwood talking, I just kept laughing. I recorded that from the Turner Classic Movie Channel.
Then tonight my husband and I watched that movie, Step Brothers. It had Will Ferrell in it. His movies have been really stupid lately but this one was really funny. A lot of swearing, but it was funny.
Tomorrow night my husband and I will be hosting Christmas Eve for our family this year. We're so looking forward to it. I can't wait to just spend some time with the family, have a little food, hear some Christmas music in the background, hearing my two year old grandson call me grandma, and watching my youngest son playing, giving my husband a big Christmas hug, etc., etc., etc., I think you all know what I'm talking about. I am so blessed. After all the prep, I just want to be in the moment, to enjoy the moment and to remember the moment of Christmas 2008. Us housewives can silently breath...aaahhhhh.
Merry Christmas to every individual person who reads my blog, whether they leave a comment or not...Peace.

1951 Show Boat-Movie Review
Like I mentioned in my profile, I absolutely love old movies. I've probably started really watching them for a few years now.
We have that dvr cable box where I can record a program and watch and pause it at anytime. That is how my hubby and I will watch our favorite t.v. shows, without commercials. So that makes it really nice.
So my favorite station for old movies is that Turner Classic movie channel. I'm not sure if other states have that channel on their cable stations. So that is the station I'll record it from to watch at a later date. Well I recorded Show Boat last summer. I never saw it. Then, like I mentioned in my previous posts, my mother-in-law took me to see the play recently and I just loved it. The play and the story.
So last night after everyone went to bed, I made some popcorn and and got comfy on the couch and watched the 1951 version of Show Boat. It was really good. I do have to say that I liked the singing in the play a lot better. Even though it was live, the singing in the play was so spectacular.
I've just come to love those songs in that movie. I want to get it on cd if I can. Ava Gardner starred in the movie. She was such a pretty actress. She got married to Frank Sinatra. I can see why any man would fall for her, she was knock out gorgeous. It was just a movie but you'd want to keep looking at her face she was so pretty. And it was known that Frank Sinatra really loved her even after their divorce.
I'm glad that I got to see both, the play and the movie. Seeing that old movie just makes me want to watch another old movie. I just love old movies. My grandparents passed away but I'll think, "Oh I'm watching a movie that my Grandma probably watched." And it'll just make me feel good.

Things We Lost In The Fire-Movie Review
So what have I been doing with all this snow we been getting? Well the other night my husband and I watched the movie, 'Things We Lost In The Fire." I liked it. It had Halley Berry in it. I like her. I think she is a good actress. One thing that I did not like about the movie was the back and forth back flashes that movies have sometimes. I don't like movies like that. I prefer to just watch the movie unfold and not the constant going back and forth from past to present. At times I'd have a hard time knowing the difference.
It was a sad movie. But along with the movie there was hope, which gave the movie a nice balance. So it wasn't a totally depressing movie.
Looks like this is going to be a bad winter with the way it's begun. I have a few things I have going that will keep me busy for awhile.
Well I have my blogging of course. I have the book 'The Road' I'm still reading. I'm beginning to crochet my daughter's family an afghan for their living room. Plus I want to do some baking. I didn't make time for it this Christmas so, I'm going to after Christmas. Plus seeing every ones yummy goodies that they baked made me want to do some baking. I also want to start planning for my first Mardi Gra party at the end of February. It's something I've been wanting to have for a couple of years now. Then after that, I have to start planning for my son's First Holy Communion in May. Then after that, at the beginning of June, my second grandchild should be born at around that time. 2009 is going to be an exciting year with all these wonderful events that are taking place in my family. Busy, but exciting! I could go on and on. But I will leave it right here for now.
But yeah if any of you have any recipe ideas for my Mardi Gras party I'd love to here about them. I want them to be traditional Louisiana food, but it has to be fairly easy. I have to do some research on the food to. Okay, well let's not jump the gun here. Let's just get through Christmas first...

So Far So Good
Thank you readers for your concern on Michigan's winter storm. Last night my local news said our area officially got 9.2 inches of snow. It stopped snowing at about 2 pm yesterday afternoon. The sun even peeked out for a brief time yesterday evening. It was very strange to see a flash of lightening and then a loud crash of thunder during a snow storm.
It's snowing lightly now as I'm writing this post. I haven't even looked at the news yet this morning. The main roads must be OK because I heard the plow trucks come barreling down my subdivision road this morning while I was still lying in bed. Yay, because I have to pick up my ham from my church this morning or we will be eating PB & J for our Christmas dinner. Plus I wanted to run up to another grocery store to get those angel wings pastries. I just love those things. There especially good with coffee in the morning. My grocery store didn't have them when I went there last. I'm not polish but their a polish pastry. But I just love them. I think I waited to long to get them. I actually forgot about them.
Well we just got days before Christmas now. I hope you all are having a nice Christmas season. Have a great day.

Snow Storm Update
Just wanted to update you on the winter storm. Well it's about 6:30 am here in Michigan. The snow started to fall at 5:00 am.
There is a snow day for the kids so that's good.
Now the weather men added two more inches to the accumulation that we are suppose to get. Now there calling for 8-12 inches of snow instead of 6-10 inches. They say we could possibly get up to two inches of snow an hour. The weather men said that thunder is likely to move along with this winter storm because of the heavy snow accumulation that we are suppose to get, in just a short amount of time. Yikes! The snow is suppose to come fast. The majority of the storm should be pretty much done by 1 o' clock this afternoon. We're expecting another storm in two days. It's not suppose to be as bad as this one. Then more snow again on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
I just hope we don't lose power. Posh & Trendy got me thinking since she had mentioned that had happened to her and her family. The news mentioned that some people have lost their power.
Okay, I'll keep you all posted. If I don't write for awhile, well then that means we lost power and we're hunkering down. I'm signing off...from Peek-A-Boo Street.

6-10 Inches of Snow Coming
Well the weather men have been warning us that a storm is brewing for a few days now. It's suppose to start snowing after midnight tonight.
It's a good thing that I'm doing my grocery shopping today.
Tomorrow is suppose to be my kids' last day of school for their Christmas break. I think there break might be starting a day early. Tomorrow is suppose to be my son's Christmas party at school to. We'll just have to see tomorrow morning. We already have a few inches of snow on the ground as it is. They say some areas can get as much as 12 inches of snow.
I had some library books due back tomorrow but I called and borrowed them out for a bit longer.
Then after all is said and done, the weather men are talking about a few more inches to add to it in a few days.
Thank goodness all my Christmas stuff is done. I just have to go grocery shopping this morning which I'm expecting that to be a nightmare with the crowds, and I have so much to get.
I'll keep you all posted. There's no more dreaming of a white Christmas. We are GOING to have a white Christmas.

Saving The Best For Last
The other evening while I was cooking dinner and helping my son with his homework I happened to look outside. I always look outside right before it gets dark. I've always done this. I don't know why. Do any of you? Just habit I guess. It just gives me a quick moment, as it grabs my heart to realize, that the day is drawing to a close.

And to my surprise, I seen the most beautiful sunset that I think I may have ever seen here on Peek-A-Boo Steet. It was so beautiful. Thank you Jesus. Boy I should have posted this on my new Catholic blog. So what did I do? Well you guessed it. I ran to get my camera. What was weird to me this time, was that the colors would turn out more vivid with a flash on at this time of day. Huh, didn't quite understand that.
But needless to say...like my Grandpa C. use to call "Him." At the end of a long, hard day...The "Man Upstairs"...saved the best for last...

Good night fellow bloggers. I'm signing off, from Peek-A-Boo Steet...

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is absolutely my favorite movie! And when I found these clips of the movie, I just had to add it to my blog. I'm sure everyone has seen the movie. But it's so gosh darn funny. I still laugh even though I've seen it 200 times! I hope this makes you laugh like it does me! Enjoy! This clip here is a little bit of the whole movie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzMUxMp1ndk

Edamame Salad
About a week ago my daughter posted an edamame salad on her blog with the recipe. http://aaydensmommy.blogspot.com/ You know how I dislike writing out recipes. I always send my blogger friends a link to fend for themselves. I know, I'm a terrible blogger host. Well maybe not terrible, just lazy perhaps.
Anyway my daughter had that salad recipe posted and I tried it tonight to go along with our dinner and it was really good. I was rather surprised and I'll tell you why. I do like to eat as healthy as I possibly can. Or should I say I try to do the best that I can. It depends on my frame of mind on a particular day I guess. I'm sure we can all relate. Anyhow so I'm always looking for new and healthy foods that I have never tried to add to my list of healthy foods to eat. I like to try new fruits, vegetables etc.
Well I have to say I've never tried nor wanted to try tofu. I don't know, I just can't bring myself to try that. I've always heard of those diet soybean burgers and other edible stuff like milk also made from soybeans. I don't know about you but that tofu does not look appetizing to me in the least. I even went as far as trying those veggie burgers. And well they were OK but I never bought them again. So that's why I kind of strayed away from the soybean food products because tofu just looks icky! Thank goodness my mom didn't make me eat that when I was a kid or I'd be sitting at the table for a very looonnnngggg time (Mom never made me sit at the table till I finished my food, just a figure of speech)!
But my daughter raved about how good edamame was and how she will just eat them for a snack! Yes, a snack. So she peeked my curiosity. So I tried them and they were good. And I would have them again. Maybe even for a snack.
I asked my daughter when she started eating those because I never bought them before when she lived at home. She said a girlfriend got her to try them. I asked her where to find them in the stores and she said in the freezer department. They are by the organic freezer foods. But I couldn't find them shelled like the recipe called for. I had to buy them in there pods in a bag but they were easy to pop out of there pods after you boiled them. Here are a few pics. Again you can go to my daughter's blog and get the whole recipe.
Thank you daughter for broadening my horizons on soybeans. Thanks for the quick and easy salad recipe to. This would be a nice cool salad to have in the summer.
Picture of the bag it came in.

After you boiled them like the directions say, you easily pop the soybeans out of their pods.

Then I chilled it for about an hour.
It was a very good salad with the fresh ingredients and nice and cool. See I try to be open minded. My daughter is probably going to make fun of me. She's going to tell my secret that I eat garbonzo beans right out of the can. I love those things. Edamame has the same texture as a garbozo bean but it tasted different. My husband thought they looked like lima beans.

~ A Scarf For My Grandson ~
My daughter asked me if I would crochet my Grandson a scarf. Aw my heart melted. I said of course I'll make him a scarf. Us grannies like to feel needed. I don't know if you had noticed but I gave out my real name and...(bite my finger nails) my age in my profile. I'm a young Grandma and my family (in fun) calls me Granny Annie. But I found it helpful when I was looking up new blogs to contact. I would wonder what age they were so that is why I posted my age. Same with my name. It's just makes it easier to type Anne than the title of my blog all the time. So are you all going to write your real names and ages? Oh come on, I did it now you have to do it. Lol (laugh out loud) I'm just kidding.
So here is my Grandson's scarf. It's still in progress but I'll be done with it very soon. I have no pattern. I'm just stitching it up with double crochet stitches. I hope you all are having a good day.

*~ A Snowy Day ~*
I could just watch it snow like this for hours. Its so peaceful and so relaxing. I'm dreaming of a white Christmas...Aww. All our problems seem to fade away on days like this. The snow is so beautiful. I'll bring the snow right to you. Even if your from the southern states. I hope you enjoy the movie clip I made for you.
P.S. While I was waiting for this video to load up, I was sitting at my desk crocheting my grandson's scarf. I'm so addicted to blogging, I need to get a life. Hey I was thinking that I should post more of these movie clips so that I can get caught up on my reading and crocheting while I'm waiting for these things to load up. They take like 15 minutes. I could get maybe half a chapter done or a few rows of crocheting done...

Thank You To My Followers
I just would like to take time and write a post today to thank all of these nice woman who follow my blog. I would like to thank you all publicly in blogville.
You all have been so nice to visit my blog, time and time again. I hope you enjoy my blog as much as I enjoy reading yours. I hope that all my followers will check out each others blogs. Then we can all become bloggy friends. And if you haven't become a follower of mine yet, I hope you will.
And I just want to thank all of you for leaving such nice comments on my blog(s). It's fun to blog but it's really nice when you get nice comments from fellow bloggers to. So thanks again.
I didn't follow any ones blog publicly because I felt like I didn't have enough followers yet and not much readership. But as we all know when your starting out, that takes time.
On another note, there were two blogs that I did block. One was a UK band so I didn't understand why they would follow my blog so I blocked it. The other blog I blocked this morning was a 'fix up your home' type blog. Again, I don't understand why they would want to follow my blog.
A lot of you who follow my blog have different interests than me and that's OK. That's what makes visiting other peoples blogs fun and interesting. But I'm talking about blogs that are so far fetched than my blog, do you understand what I'm trying to say? I love to look at all kinds of blogs that are different than mine and I do follow all kinds of blogs that do have different interests.
I hope you all are having a wonderful and relaxing holiday weekend! I'm signing off...from Peek-A-Boo Street!
