Westview Orchards & Cider Mill

My family and I just love going to the cider mills this time of year. You get to spend quality time with your family and get to enjoy your outings. It's a great way to enjoy the beginning of autumn. You get to spend time outside and your getting fresh air. It's just plain fun. We decided to visit West view Orchards & Cider Mill here in Michigan. There is so much to do there which is nice because it keeps you there longer. We were there for several hours. They had a nice entrance...

We seen the animals outside where you can pet them...

Then they had more animals inside that you can see. Some were even born that same day we were there...

Then after that you could go inside this big fenced in area along with the goats and baby goats. The baby goats were so playful. They were jumping up and down like little horses. They were so full of energy. They were very smart to. You can buy a handful of food for 25 cents to feed the goats. One of the goats lifted up the cover of the slot were you retrieve the food, stuck his snoot in there and was eating some food pellets. See in the next photo...

There were pony rides for the kiddies...
We took in some more sights...

Then we went on a corn maze! A tractor had to pull a trailer full of people to the corn field! It was so much fun!

We were on our own trying to make it through the corn maze...

All we could see is corn, corn and more corn!!

Are we walking is circles? Are those my shoe prints? Oh gees!

When we finally made it out of the corn mazes and back to the mill, it was time for doughnuts and cider! And we deserved it. We were so tired from our long day at the cider mill.

You could also go apple picking and chose your own pumpkins from the pumpkin patch but maybe next year (yawn)...

GreekTown Casino in Detroit

Well I'm not on a jet plane heading for Europe which means I'm here in my home office. Well we didn't win big which I had hoped for but Peek-A-Boo Street did win $5o gambling at the casino. Well we didn't sit in on the high roller section or anything like that, it was more of the nickel and quarter slot machines. I could not believe how many slot machines there were and they were all lit up. There were rows and rows of slot machines. I even asked if I could take pictures and the lady just looked at Peek-A-Boo and said, "No." I just walked away and continued on my casino adventure. It was very smokey. There might have been a non smoking floor but I'm not sure.
Did we have fun on our first visit you ask? You bet (no pun intended)! My hubby and I had a blast! We had so much fun! We just thought we were all that! I felt like a kid at the carnival! There were lights everywhere and the music was booming! There were a lot of people from all walks of life with one thing in mind. Everyone wanted to win BIG! What an experience.
After we whooped it up at the casino we went to go get some lunch right in Greek Town where the casino is located. We went to Pizza Populas. I probably did not spell that right. And we sat upstairs of the restaurant at the window where you could look down and people watch. It was so much fun. There were construction workers with there florescent vests and hard helmets. I seen the UPS truck going by. A woman police officer walking by. People looking for a place to eat. People pointing here and there. I seen homeless people sleeping on the stoop of St. Mary's door. There was this old man. He must have been in his 80's. He was wearing a black suit with a black hat, all dressed up walking along a black iron fence. He was just strolling down the avenue. There was something unique about him. You could tell that he held a wealth of history. You could probably sit down with him and he could tell you all about the history of Detroit.
So anyway I was able to take some pictures but not to many. I was just having to much fun to actually stop and take pictures.
So will we ever go back you ask? You betcha!

And that's it...

UltimateTwice Baked Potatoes

So my husband begged me to make those twice baked potatoes again. So how could I resist his pleas. I was to lazy (sorry) to write down the recipe here in the blog so here is the link. http://www.cdkitchen.com/ Once you click on the link, you just have to type in 'Ultimate Twice Baked Potatoes' in the 'recipe search box' at the top, and it will take you to the recipe. You might have to scroll down a bit to find it though. It's a good recipe and it is fairly easy to make. My family just loves it. It's great for your family or for entertaining, for it does make for a good presentation. You could probably make it a day ahead, before you stuff the potatoes again. Of course you would have to wrap the scooped out potatoes and the potato filling real good. The website does not show a picture so I added mine here for you to see. This time I did use real bacon. You could use that bacon in the box that you put in your microwave to crisp up. That bacon is fine for garnishing your food with and I like it at times because you don't get the greasy messy clean up. We even had enough for left overs and they were just as good the following evening. If you try them, let me know how you and your family like them. Or if you have your own recipe for twice baked potatoes, please leave a comment. Have a nice evening.

Gotcha!

No hoops and hollers please! Oh so your wondering how I finally got that picture of this scarecrow huh? Do you got a minute? Well pull up a chair. Here's the scoop.
Over the weekend I attempted to walk down Peek-A-Boo Street two times with my camera in hand. But I chickened out and came back home with no pictures. Even my hubby was asking, "So did you get the picture?" Then my oldest son was telling me not to take the picture. He said that he knows the girl that lives there and that he goes to school with her.
Lean your ear a little closer...
Well on that fine Monday morning I told my youngest son that we would be walking again to take him to school. When it was time to leave my heart was beating faster. I put my camera in my pocket of my jacket with the camera turned on so all I had to do was nonchalantly pull it out of my pocket and just start snapping away. We got closer and closer...I looked around casually and made sure no one was looking. Then I made sure no one was looking out the lady's front window. The coast was clear and I just took a couple shot's to make sure they turned out and proceeded to walk my son to school, with a big smile on my face! Yippee! Gotcha!

Welcome Autumn!

Happy autumn! Today is the first day of fall. The change will be nice. I put up my fall wreath on my front door. As you can see my door is open, so come on in and stay awhile. I know just what to get you. How would you like a big mug of mulled cider with a cinnamon stick? Mmm...can't you smell it simmering on the stove top? Please enjoy your stay and all are welcome...even autumn. Have a great day!

Franklin Cider Mill

After church, my family and I went to the Franklin Cider Mill here in Michigan. It was such a relaxing time. Today was a beautiful day with just a little chill in the air. We strolled the grounds of the old Mill just taking in all that there was to see. As we walked along we could smell all of those fresh apples to apple pies to apple cider along with their fresh doughnuts. Mmm. The cider was the best I ever had and the doughnuts were delicious. I noticed on the jug of apple cider when we got home it read that you can freeze their cider. I'm going to go back an get another jug and freeze it and then bring it out during the holidays. We seen the water wheel. We watched how they pressed their apples. People were riding in a carriage being pulled by two beautiful horses. They had a bridge over the crook with ducks swimming also. I took some pictures that I wanted to share with you.
